iPlotz looks like a good option. I think I might use that for the demo. Either that or, if it doesn't work out, paper is a good old standby.
Why are Patterns Important?
From what I can tell it seems that patterns really speak to usability. The web is still new, sort of, and as it evolves designers have been going in similar and different directions. But good design is something that makes it easier for us to use a site, therefore those designs tend to jump out into the front. Knowing that you shouldn't put a navigation bar in the middle of the page is helpful. It's just one of those things that over time we have learned doesn't really work, unless you present it in a very specific way. Phone Gaps site has a scrolling, I guess you could call it nav, in the middle of the page. But that's just it... it scrolls. And there is a traditional nav on the top and on the bottom of the page so the idea that you still have the familiars plus something new makes it easier for people to understand. You have to see the patterns that already exist and understand why they are there and why they work.
